Alexandre Sirvain
'12 - '13 Alexandre took Eric's seminar class on clusters during his Master's in Urban Planning & Environmental Services at the ESSEC Business School in Paris in 2011. In 2012, he came to NYC for eight months to work as a consultant with ETG, developing among other things a comprehensive market study of the Ethiopian Honey sector for the I2 Agribusiness Incubator in Addis Ababa. Alex speaks fluent French. ETG wishes him good luck on his next career journey with train station development for the SNCF in Paris! |
Joachim Mowinckel
summer '12 & spring '13 Joachim worked for ETG during the last summer of his Bachelor's in Economics at Columbia University, and for six months after graduation. His work includes contributions to ETG's action plan for Sustainable Tourism in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley and a study of Ethiopia's Dairy sector, in addition to various other projects and proposals. Joachim speaks Norwegian, French, Spanish and Portuguese. He is pursuing the academic route with a Master's in Economics at the University of Oxford in fall '13. |

Joseph Daniel
spring '12 Joseph worked with ETG during his Master of Public Administration at Columbia. He carried out internal case studies on clean tech development, developed a strategic plan with Malaysian partners - government and corporate - in order to “Green" the palm oil sector. He helped conduct a charrette on Sustainable Development Model, devising a new economic model for cluster development that incorporates sustainability efforts. Joe also played a key role for the Sustainable Tourism project in Kathmandu. He has gone on to an exciting position at Synapse, a consultancy specializing in energy, economic, and environmental topics. |
Megan Fisher
spring '12 Megan worked on the development of a sustainable innovation system project on zero-waste technology for the palm oil industry in Malaysia for the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) project called "Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Muslim World". She graduated from Columbia with a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy. She is currently with Willdan Energy Solutions, which helps clients throughout the country reduce energy consumption and meet their energy goals. |
Jessica Taylor
'12 Jessica worked on ETG's project for infoDev/World Bank on Best Practices for Agribusiness Incubators. She prepared case studies about world leading agribusiness incubators, including Fundacion Chile, Fundacion Jalisco (Mexico), and Centev/UFV (Brazil). She speaks advanced Spanish. A graduate from Columbia with a Master of Public Administration, Jessica now works as Executive Director of Performance Management at NYC's Department of Small Business Services. |
Adam Robbins
'11 - '12 Adam worked for ETG during his MSc in Sustainability Management at Columbia University. He helped acquire USAID financing for the I2 Agribusiness Incubator in Addis Ababa and he supported the development of a 'Competitiveness Enhancement Strategy' for Suriname and Kathmandu, in addition to updating ETG’s cluster development model to include key sustainability metrics and indicators. We are excited to see his career progress at MindClick, an innovative consultancy that provides industries and governments with measurement of sustainability performance. |
Luisa Groher
'11 - '12 Luisa worked on a variety of ETG projects, including a research project for "Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Islamic World" for ETG's proposal/project for the World Islamic Economic Forum (2011-12). She is a graduate from Colorado State with a BA in Humanities and from Dartmouth College with a Master's Degree in Globalization studies. Luisa is proficient in Spanish. She now lives in Boston, and works as an ad hoc consultant. |
Alfonso Montero
'10 - '11 Alfonso's contributions include ETG marketing, proposal and report writing, primarily in relation to ETG's project in Loja, Ecuador. He was instrumental to ETG's winning of the Cleveland project. After graduating with a Master in Global Affairs from NYU, Alfonso has worked for the Economist Intelligence Unit and for Chemonics International as Project Management Consultant for Mobile Money in Afghanistan. He speaks Spanish and Portuguese, in addition to some Guaraní, French and Persian. |
Dmitry Spitsberg
'10 - '11 Dmitry worked on a national (Cleveland) and international (Suriname) level; helping to create tailored economic development plans. He graduated from Carnegie-Mellon Universtity's MS program in Public Policy and Management and now works at the Africa Exchange Holdings Company where he became directly involved in the formulation of AFEX’s long-term strategy in Africa, which seeks to develop the continent’s financial markets through the establishment of national and regional exchanges. He is based in Rwanda. |
Casey Ehrlich
'10 - '11 Casey initially worked on ETG marketing and research projects, before becoming a consultant and playing a key role in the field on ETG's project in Loja, Ecuador and in Cleveland. She has a Master's in International Affairs from Columbia and is now completing her Ph.D. in Political Science on Comparative Politics and Economic Development in Latin America at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Casey speaks fluent Spanish. |
Heather O'Neill
'08 - '09 Heather devoted herself to marketing and proposal development, and documented ETG's project about Women's Savings Circles and Economic Empowerment in Tabasco, Mexico. Heather did field work in Turkey, where she helped develop a Women's Savings Circle and an Economic Empowerment project. Heather went on to partner with her sister Katie and develop Mushmina, a fair trade fashion accessories business supporting women artisans in Morocco and the MENA region. Heather is fluent in Moroccan Arabic and is currently based in the rural region surrounding Casablanca as head of Mushmina's women's workshop. |
Manuel Rosaldo
'06 - '07 Manuel assisted ETG on the project about Women's Savings Circles and Economic Empowerment in Tabasco, Mexico. Manuel ultimately did field work for ETG in Tabasco and wrote his Master's Thesis for his MS in Global Affairs at NYU about this project. Manuel is now completing his Ph.D. in Sociology at UC Berkeley, with a dissertation about the urban recycling "garbage pickers" of Bogotá, Colombia. He speaks fluent Spanish. |

DeltaGDP & ETG Columbia Consultancy Case Competition 2013
Congratulations to the winning team in the DeltaGDP/ETG Consultancy Case Competition 2013: Shrey Chandra, Crystal Ang and Sebastian Mata. After attending an afternoon debrief on ETG's clustering approach and receiving the terms of reference for the contest, they worked for one week to deliver a stellar proposal for a cluster development framework of two Ethiopian Agricultural Clusters and the tourism cluster. The victors then joined members of ETG for a well-deserved Ethiopian feast at Massawa Ethiopian Restaurant!
